Intro – 20-plus year resident of Newport, Parent of 3 swimmers on our 4th year on the team. I look forward to seeing my kids continue to learn the fundamentals of swimming and shave off time from last year’s swimming events. And to come home really tired so they can go to sleep easily.
Regular Team Practice: Team practice will begin on Monday, April 22nd. All 8 and under swimmers should report to the first time slot, and they will be divided up for the remainder of the practices into A & B. Times are posted on the website and in emails.
Practice Schedule (until the
end of school)
Monday - Friday
8 and Under A 5:00:5:30
8 and Under B 5:30-6:00
9-10 6-6:45
11-12 6:45-7:30
13 and UP 7:30-8:30
Team Swimsuits are Available but not mandatory to be on team:
The training suits are a solid black color, while the custom suits have your team design; For an additional fee, swimmers can add their name to their competition suit.
Training suits will arrive 3-5 days after the order is received. Custom suits will arrive at the swimmer’s home within 3 weeks of placing the order.
Amazon has good options that will work just fine. Please note that loose-fitting boys swim trunks are not recommended, as they tend to come off during entry from dive boards. Therefore, we suggest that boys wear snug-fitting swim trunks or jammers. For girls, one-piece suits are recommended.
Chocolate Fundraiser: The chocolate bar fundraiser should be available for pick up at a date yet to be determined.
Reason for the chocolate bar fund raiser:
- Low entry cost for parents: One of the primary benefits of a chocolate bar fundraiser is that it allows the Newport Torpedoes Swim Team to keep the entry cost low for parents. Instead of asking parents to make a large donation or pay a high entry fee.
- Funds for new equipment: As a swim team, the Newport Torpedoes need to constantly invest in new equipment to stay competitive and improve their performance. By using the funds raised from the chocolate bar fundraiser to purchase new equipment, the team can ensure that they have the tools they need to succeed in the pool. Like our new building.
- Scholarships for senior swimmers: Another important goal of the Newport Torpedoes Swim Team is to provide a small scholarship for 1 boy and 1 girl outbound senior heading to college, trade school or Armed Forces. More details to come.
We will have prizes for the kids who sell the most boxes this year! Prizes will be in the form of amazon gift cards.
Remind App & Swimtopia App Available:
- JOIN the Remind 101 App... This will assist you in staying informed with upcoming swim team information.
- Download the Swimtopia App to keep up with upcoming events, swim times, track the meet, volunteer shifts coming up and credits worked, etc.
Volunteer Swim Officials: I would like to take a moment to recognize our Volunteer Swim Officials. These parent volunteers have really stepped up and we appreciate their help and support. Without their help, we would not be able to have successful and safe swim meets.
Parent Volunteer Checks: We would like to remind all parents to turn in their Volunteer Checks for $200. Please note that this check will not be cashed and only be held until the end of the season.
I would like to emphasize the importance of parent volunteers. We need parent volunteers at every swim meet to help with timing, scoring, and other meet duties. Your participation is crucial to the success of our meets and the overall swim season. We understand that everyone has busy schedules, but just a few hours of your time can make a significant difference.
Swim Meet Schedule:
- May 4th - Time Trials -, Newport Pool: Every swimmer must have an event time to qualify for a meet. Please make sure to attend. This serves as a practice meet for our new swimmers to learn how the actual swim meets operate. Theme - Newport Team Spirit
