Congratulations on the Win and Summer Champs Information
Fellow Parents,
Congratulations to the Newport Torpedoes on their fantastic win against the Livingston Sea Lions, with a final score of Torpedoes 854, Sea Lions 439. It's truly an outstanding achievement!
We are incredibly proud of the athletes who broke records during the match. Two records that had stood for 10 years were shattered, showcasing the remarkable talent of these young swimmers. Blayne Cutbirth (12) broke Regan Noel's 100 IM record with an impressive time of 1:11.58, surpassing the previous record of 1:12.37 set in 2016. Cutbirth also excelled in the 50 Fly event, breaking Kaity Carr's record with a time of 30.18, surpassing the previous time of 30.48 from 2013.
Ethan Miguez (13) displayed exceptional skill by breaking two records. Miguez set a new record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.33, surpassing Clayton Jones's previous record of 25.93 from 2013. Additionally, Miguez broke Kobe Williams's record in the 50 Fly with a time of 28.33, surpassing the previous time of 28.67 set in 2021.
Kyle Beylotte (18) showcased his determination and talent by breaking his own record in the 50 freestyle. Beylotte achieved a remarkable time of 23.41, surpassing his previous record of 23.68 from 2022.
We encourage everyone to continue supporting these young athletes as they strive to achieve even greater heights in their swimming careers. To ensure their continued success, please make sure to declare your child for next week's swim meet against the Oaks Olympians in Atascocita. If you have any specific swim event requests for the coach, please include them in the notes.
Furthermore, mark your calendars for the Summer Champs, which is a mid-season invitational swim meet taking place on June 11th at Kingwood High School. Please note that qualifying times are required to receive an invitation to this event. Currently, there are 22 participants who qualify, making every event and every swim meet crucial for the athletes.
If your child's name appears on the website under mid-season qualifiers, you have the opportunity to sign them up for this invitational swim meet. The process is the same as declaring for a regular meet, but they must also select the events they are eligible for. Each swimmer can participate in up to 6 individual events and 3 relays.
It is essential to sign up by the deadline, which is May 29th. Failure to do so will result in non-participation in the Summer Champs.
Additionally, please be aware that although Trinity qualifying times have been finalized, the template is still incomplete, which is why names have not been posted yet. Rest assured, the website has been updated with the new qualifiers from last weekend's event.
Please note that participation in the invitational swim meets, such as the Summer Champs and Trinity, will incur an additional cost. Parents are responsible for a fee of $6 per individual event. The total cost will depend on the number of qualifying events each swimmer participates in, ranging from $6 to a maximum of $36.
However, Newport Torpedoes will cover the cost of the relay events.
Keep an eye out for a flyer with more information regarding the next meet. Thank you for your unwavering support of the Newport Torpedoes. Let's continue cheering on these talented swimmers!
Best regards,
