Coach Kaleigh Introduction
Hello parents and swimmers,
I am Coach Kaleigh. I cannot wait for the season to start, and I am so excited to see new and familiar faces.
A little bit about me, I started my swimming career swimming for Newport Torpedoes, at the age of 6. As I got older, I then went on to join a year-round team as well as swim for the Crosby High School swim team. One of my best events was the 200-yard Individual Medley and I enjoy swimming Backstroke and Breaststroke. I now swim recreationally.
I want my swimmers to have fun and I genuinely believe that if you are enjoying what you do, you perform better. I try to make swim practice fun while still focusing on building strength, endurance, and speed. I want my swimmers to enjoy what they’re doing while also accomplishing the goals that they have set for themselves. As someone who grew up on the Newport Torpedoes, this team has a family atmosphere. No swimmer will never not have a cheerleader right behind them, and if a swimmer wins the team wins. I want the pool to be a safe environment, full of support and kindness. I will not stand for any unsportsmanlike behavior or negative attitudes. Any unsportsmanlike behavior or negative attitudes will be addressed once between the coach and the swimmer. If the behavior continues, a conversation will be held between coaches, parents, and the swimmer, so that the problem will be addressed and resolved.
I started teaching Swim Lessons at the age of 15, and since then, I have opened my own business, using my experience to help teach children, teenagers, and adults how to swim. I also was an assistant coach for last year’s Newport Torpedoes swim season. Using the knowledge that I have on swimming and the curriculum I have gained from working as a swim instructor allows me to break down the strokes to a clear understanding for all my swimmers. I stay up-to-date with the latest drills and swim sets by researching and using my knowledge of what I learned as an assistant coach.
I want both parents and swimmers to be comfortable to come to talk to me if they have any concerns, and if I do not have the answer, I can direct them to a board member that can help. If a swimmer comes down with an illness or injury, I would like to be notified of any injury or illness. If a swimmer is injured and cannot perform a certain drill or stroke, we can work around their injuries so they can still focus on healing and recovery. As their swim coach, I will teach the best drills to help prevent injury and improve the swimmer's strength. To help all parents and summer stay up-to-date with swim meet themes, practice cancellations, or any other announcements, I will be using the App Remind. If you have not joined, I do recommend joining now.

My goal as your child’s swim coach is to help them build confidence, make new friends, accomplish their goals, and have fun throughout the season. Swimming is something I am very passionate about and I enjoy coaching. I pride myself on being the best coach I can be for your children, and I only want what is best for them. I am looking forward to a great season and I cannot wait to see all that we, as a team, will accomplish!
Let's Dive In!!
